I’m deeply interested in various fields related to holistic well-being—for ourselves, for one another, and for the communities we live in. I previously worked as an international cooperation planner in science and technology, with a focus on the beneficial use of technology (Tech4Good). Now, I’m dedicated to researching and supporting children’s play environments through my work in playwork. These days, I hope to explore and shape a preferred future—one that is healthy and joyful—gently moving my antennae with curiosity and stepping forward lightly, with playful intention.
The following has been listed, among others, on this CV(Eng) of past, present, and upcoming work. Updates are posted through Instagram, Website(Kor), and Brochure(Eng). You can also see some writings on blog and movies on Youtube. I welcome messages through popupplay.seoul@gmail.com .
PLAYWORK- Now in my 11th year (since 2015) as a “Playworker", I work through Popup Play Seoulto activate playful experiences within communities, and through Playwork Korea to research the essence and value of play in collaboration with diverse stakeholders—toward building cities where play is a way of life. "Other children, time to play, space to play, and the attitudes of adults" In particular, I dream of a Utopia Village—a place where it is natural and expected for children in Korea to have ample time to play joyfully with other children near their homes. Because this seemingly obvious situation is still far from reality, I am committed to advocating for children's right to play. I seek out their time, their space, and their presence—and work to transform the attitudes of adults. Through playwork, the practice of researching and supporting children’s play environments, I explore and implement Design for Play Circumstance across various fields.
PROJECTS — You can view the projects that Popup Play Seoul has carried out from 2015 to the present in the Popup Play Seoul Project-Google Sheet. Popup Play Seoul researches and supports play environments with "Play, Engage, and Design" as its core values. "PLAY"-The essence and value of play are both the process and the outcome of everything we do. Our goal is to maximize the value of play in every environment we design and create. We believe that children can take the lead in building their own play spaces with peers and solving the problems they face—on their own. To support this, we research and implement Playwork, a professional approach that minimizes adult intervention, in order to foster and sustain rich play environments."ENGAGE"– We recognize that children are active agents of change in the communities where they live, and that they hold both the rights and responsibilities of citizens. We collaborate with children and other members of the community to explore and co-create cities that support and celebrate play. "DESIGN" – Guided by these values, we design child-friendly experiences and urban environments. Our work includes: 1.Make Playground Together (MPT), where children create their own playgrounds 2.Playboxes and Play cabinet, mobile and flexible resources that support community-based play 3.Playday, a community campaign to advocate for the right to play, 4.Playwork training programs, and the 5.research, planning, and operation of playful and child-friendly cities.
